Jets QB Sam Darnold sent home with illness

The New York Jets are preparing for their Week 2 contest against the Cleveland Browns, but they had to do so on Wednesday without their starting quarterback. Sam Darnold was sent home from the Jets practice facility with what is believed to be strep throat.

Jets coach Adam Gase revealed the details of Darnold’s illness in his press conference on Wednesday.

Nobody wishes any lingering ill on Darnold, of course. But if he’s not at 100 percent, it does indeed help out the Browns. Darnold does have plenty of time to recover with the kickoff not until Monday night.

The Browns had an illness of their own on Tuesday, when starting safety Damarious Randall missed practice with an undisclosed illness.
