Jets QB Sam Darnold has mono, will not play vs. Browns

The Browns’ Monday night matchup at New York just got a little more interesting. Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will miss the game, and perhaps several more, with mononucleosis.

Jets coach Adam Gase said today that Darnold will be out. Backup Trevor Siemian will start for the Jets, who are also now shopping for a backup in case Siemian goes down. The only other QB in the Jets organization is second-year player Luke Falk, currently on the practice squad.

According to the New York Post, Darnold lost about five pounds over the last week and the Jets grew quite concerned over his health. He was sent home from Wednesday’s practice.
