Jets QB Josh McCown officially out for season with broken left hand, Petty to start

Todd Bowles on Monday announced the news many expected after the Jets' 23-0 defeat in Denver: Starting quarterback Josh McCown will miss the remainder of the season because of a broken left hand.

McCown will need surgery to repair the injury, Bowles said.

Now the Jets officially turn to 26-year-old Bryce Petty for a game at the Saints this weekend. Christian Hackenberg is expected to be active for the first time since Week 1 and just the second time in his two-year career to be the backup.

McCown suffered the broken hand after taking a hit in the third quarter Sunday at the Broncos. Petty replaced him and went 2-for-9 passing over the rest of the game.
