Jets QB Geno Smith has torn ACL, a source confirms

Just like that, Geno Smith's season is over.

An MRI revealed the Jets quarterback tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Sunday's 24-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens, a source confirmed to Newsday.

NFL.com first reported the news Monday.

The source confirmed that Smith will get a second opinion on Tuesday from Dr. James Andrews.

Smith, who started the game in place of the demoted Ryan Fitzpatrick, was injured on a second-quarter sack by outside linebacker Matthew Judon and was forced to leave the game. Fitzpatrick then replaced him and helped lead the Jets (2-5) to victory.

After the game, Smith told reporters he felt fine, but coach Todd Bowles said it was too early to tell who would start Sunday's game in Cleveland.

It was the first start in nearly two years for Smith, who spent the past 14 months as Fitzpatrick's backup.

Last week, Bowles made the decision to start Smith over Fitzpatrick, who had thrown an NFL-leading 11 interceptions and just five touchdown passes.

Smith was 4 of 8 passing for 95 yards and a touchdown to Quincy Enunwa in the Jets' win, which snapped their four-game losing streak.
