Jets players, staff undertake COVID tests

Newcastle Jets players and staff have been forced to undertake COVID tests and self-isolate. (AAP)

The Newcastle Jets are self isolating after undergoing COVID tests with four players from the A-League club having visited a location now listed as a close contact venue.

The four players who visited the venue have been in hard lockdown since Tuesday but as a precautionary measure the entire playing group and coaching staff took tests.

They will stay in isolation until receiving a negative result, the club said on Wednesday.

"We also encourage anyone who is experiencing symptoms or has been a close contact, to get a test," the club said in a statement.

"With the number of active COVID cases in the Hunter region, the club would like to encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible."

The Hunter local government area recorded 14 new infections on Wednesday with a lockdown of the region expected to be extended.

The Jets began their pre-season training under new coach Arthur Papas last month ahead of the new A-League campaign kicking off on October 30.
