Jets, Packers Resume Talks in Aaron Rodgers Trade Process, per Report

After hitting a lull in recent weeks, the Packers and Jets reportedly are revisiting their talks in regard to an expected blockbuster deal for quarterback Aaron Rodgers ahead of the start of the 2023 NFL draft.

Green Bay and New York “recently re-engaged” in conversations regarding a long-rumored deal for Rodgers, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday. A deal involving the four-time MVP is not imminent, per Rapoport, but the two sides are discussing the move with the hope of reaching an agreement in the coming days.

Sunday’s update comes just a few days after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the two sides were targeting Day 2 of the NFL draft on April 28 as a “soft deadline” for a trade. Schefter noted New York, which holds the No. 13 overall pick, could factor in its No. 42 and 43 second-round selections into talks, a sign that the club may be feeling a sense of urgency to finally make a trade for Rodgers.

“If picks 42 and 43 come and go without Aaron Rodgers being traded to the New York Jets, then the wait for him to become a Jet could go on for an awful long time,” Schefter said.

Although it remains to be seen if the deal comes to fruition, Rodgers’s name likely will be mentioned often with less than a week to go before the draft. Such a deal would put an end to the ongoing odyssey between the Packers and the 39-year-old signal-caller, who initially announced his desire to be traded to the Jets on March 15.
