Jets owner Woody Johnson receiving backlash for using phone during Queen’s speech

Jets owner Woody Johnson, the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, is under fire for his actions at the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Johnson has been the ambassador to the U.K. since 2017 and hasn’t drawn much attention since taking office. However, Johnson put himself back in the news earlier this week during a speech delivered by Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Johnson was in attendance at the D-Day ceremonies in England, and while the queen was speaking, he pulled out his phone. It is unknown exactly what he was doing on his phone, but the optics have drawn criticism.

In the video, Johnson is sitting two rows behind President Donald Trump, and you can clearly see the Jets owner with his phone out.

The move has created controversy, with pundits arguing that there’s a time and place to have your phone out and Johnson clearly picked the wrong time. He and other politicians and dignitaries were marking the anniversary of the invasion of Normandy, and a world leader was giving a speech and thanking veterans for their service. Whatever Johnson was looking at could’ve waited.
