FLORHAM PARK, N.J. _ After months of speculation, it's now official: Jets owner Woody Johnson is the United States' ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The post was confirmed on Thursday "as the Senate cleared the deck of dozens of nominees as it recessed for August," according to The Associated Press.
Johnson, one of the biggest GOP fundraisers, raised money for President Donald Trump's campaign and reportedly donated $1 million to Trump's inaugural committee.
His appointment has been rumored since January, when Trump congratulated Johnson at a luncheon on his move to Saint James. (The official diplomatic title is Ambassador of the United States to the Court of St James.)
Johnson, who has owned the Jets since 2000, will now give up control of the day-to-day operations of the organization. He'll be replaced by his brother, Chris.
"He looks just like Woody," joked defensive end Leonard Williams, "so I'm sure it won't be too much of a change because they look alike."
