Jets open preseason, Robert Saleh era as favorites over Giants

A new era of Jets football kicks off on Saturday night, as Robert Saleh will make his head coaching debut in New York’s preseason opener against the Giants.

Tipico Sportsbook predicts the Saleh era will begin on a high note, as the Jets are favored to defeat their crosstown rival. Gang Green is currently listed at -125 (bet $125 to win $100), while the Giants sit at +100 (bet $100 to win $100). The over/under points total for the game is 34.5, with the over at -115 (bet $115 to win $100) and the under at -105 (bet $105 to win $100).

New York’s preseason matchup with the Giants will feature a ton of new faces on the field and the sidelines. Not only will Saleh and Giants second-year head coach Joe Judge meet for the first time, but Zach Wilson will also take the field for his first game action.

Wilson has been up-and-down throughout the Jets’ early training camp practices and struggled during the recent Green and White scrimmage. The preseason will afford New York’s prized rookie signal-caller the opportunity to work out the kinks against an opposing defense.

Saturday night’s action will also be key for the Jets’ other rookies. Michael Carter and Elijah Moore are both fighting for starting spots at running back and wide receiver, respectively, and figure to receive plenty of first-team repetitions to test their chops. Defensively, Michael Carter II and Brandin Echols are competing for New York’s starting nickel cornerback position, while Hamsah Nasirildeen and Jamien Sherwood are duking it out at weak-side linebacker.
