Jets officially eliminated from playoff contention

No one was expecting a postseason run, but the Jets have officially been eliminated from playoff contention following their loss to the Saints.

New York has not made the playoffs since 2010. Those Jets, led by Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez, lost a second straight conference championship game that postseason. Gang Green hasn’t played past the end of the regular season since.

The Jets’ 11-year playoff absence is the longest active drought in the NFL. The lowly streak ties the franchise’s longest. New York missed the playoffs from 1970-1980 as well.

With the Sunday loss to New Orleans, New York is now 3-10 this year. The Jets will finish the season with their sixth consecutive losing record. They have accumulated double-digit losses for the fifth time in six seasons.
