Jets name 6 captains, including Sam Darnold and Jamal Adams

The Jets have named their team captains for the 2019 season.

Adam Gase spoke to the media Wednesday and announced the players voted on Sam Darnold, Jamal Adams, Steve McLendon, C.J. Mosley, Kelvin Beachum and Rontez Miles for captains this season. Adams, McLendon and Beachum were all captains last season, while Darnold, Mosley and Miles are all first-time captains with the Jets.

Adams has been a leader on this team since he stopped foot in the building. McLendon, meanwhile, is the most experienced player the Jets have on the roster and he’s always been looked at as a mentor to younger players. As for Beachum, he has been on the Jets offensive line longer than anybody other than Brian Winters, and he has been in the league longer.

Last season, Darnold was just getting his feet wet in the league and wasn’t ready to be a captain just yet. Entering year two, Darnold has made it known that he wants to become more of a leader; it appears he’s earned that label in the eyes of his teammates. Mosley was always the leader of the Ravens defense when he played there; now his lead by example style has been embraced by the Jets. Lastly, Miles has played a big role on special teams during his long tenure with the Jets and is one of the more under appreciated players on the roster.

The Jets have a strong core of captains this season, to say the least.
