Jets may be without RB Le’Veon Bell in Week 14 vs. Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are hoping to break out the brooms and finalize a sweep on the New York Jets this weekend — and the stars seem to be aligning for the Dolphins to have every opportunity to walk out with a win. New York Jets star safety Jamal Adams is doubtful for the contest with an injury and now prized running back Le’Veon Bell has come down with an illness, casting his availability in doubt for Week 14 against the Dolphins as well.

Bell left Jets practice early on Friday, a precautionary measure to help him get back on the mend — but this was Bell’s second consecutive missed practice.

Bell had 111 yards of total offense in the first matchup against the Dolphins this season, he was a critical factor in churning out consistent positive gains against a Miami defense that was committed to bending but not breaking. Should Bell be unable to go, the Jets would likely implement a split-back committee with Ty Montgomery shouldering the load in the passing game and Bilal Powell taking ball carrier duties.

The Jets will get no sympathy from Miami, however. The Dolphins have churned through numerous running backs throughout the course of their own trying season, including Kenyan Drake, Kalen Ballage, Mark Walton and now Patrick Laird.

The Dolphins and Jets square off tomorrow at 1 PM EST, we’ll know more about Bell’s availability tomorrow morning when the inactive list is released.
