Jets lose QB Josh Johnson to Ravens, Mike White remains out

The Jets lost a quarterback on Wednesday.

Josh Johnson left New York’s practice squad to sign with the Ravens. Baltimore is in need of QB insurance with Lamar Jackson ailing. Johnson played in three games for the Jets this season after being called up after Zach Wilson’s knee injury and when Mike White and Joe Flacco were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Johnson had a career day in Week 9 against the Colts after White exited with an elbow injury in the first quarter. Johnson finished with 317 yards and three passing touchdowns in the 41-27 loss.

This is the second time Johnson has joined the Ravens after a brief stint in 2016.

“Really excited for him and his opportunity,” Robert Saleh said Wednesday. “He deserves it. One of the elite pros in this league.”

Meanwhile, White remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He is now dealing with a non-COVID illness and hasn’t passed one of the tests required to be activated yet, per Saleh.

Saleh added that the Jets would consider bringing in another quarterback for the practice squad.

Saleh provided some injury-related updates for the depleted Jets as well. Running back Michael Carter (ankle) will play in Week 15 after spending the past three weeks on injured reserve. Running back Tevin Coleman, cornerback Michael Carter II, tight end Tyler Kroft, defensive end Bryce Huff and tight end Trevon Wesco will all return to practice as well. Left tackle George Fant (knee), defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (knee) and cornerback Isaiah Dunn (non-COVID illness) won’t practice Wednesday but will likely play in Week 15 against the Dolphins.

Saleh didn’t have any update on left tackle Mekhi Becton, who hasn’t played since Week 1 after dislocating his knee.
