The New York Jets are slated to make the third overall selection in the upcoming NFL draft. Every offseason we expect to hear the experts debate over which team should take which prospect, but rarely do we hear NFL players voicing their opinions.
That’s why it might have come as a surprise, to some, when Jets defensive end Leonard Williams tweeted out a reply to a familiar name on Friday.
Alabama defensive lineman Quinnen Williams is widely considered one of the best prospects in the 2019 draft. Analysts believe that he possesses the ability to make an impact right away for an NFL franchise in need of talent up front.
Quinnen Williams wisely sought advice from a player with untapped potential of his own. Leonard Williams, the Jets’ former first-round pick, took the league by notice in his rookie season. Since then, life has been harder for the 24-year-old on the field. Constant double teams and chip-blocks always seem to come his way, as offensive coordinators rarely worry about other pass-rushers in New York.
Could the Alabama product change that? Big Cat seems to think so.
Leonard Williams jokingly added the hashtag “#Williamsbros” to the end of his tweet. Ironically, there’s a third person, already in the Jets’ locker room, that might have a thing or two to say about that.
New York’s newest head coach, Adam Gase, recently brought in Gregg Williams to operate as the team’s defensive coordinator. That Williams will likely have the most say in which defensive player the franchise selects, assuming New York decides to draft on that side of the football.
