Jets LB C.J. Mosley plans to play Monday vs. Patriots barring setback

The Jets are planning on having their best defensive player back on Monday night against the Patriots.

C.J. Mosley told the media Thursday that he is going to play this week against the Patriots. Mosley added that unless he has a setback, nothing will stop him from taking the field Week 7.

Mosley went down with a groin injury in Week 1 against the Bills and has been out ever since. Before Mosley got hurt, he had six combined tackles, a pick-six and a fumble recovery.

The Jets didn’t expect Mosley to be out too long, but groin injuries are tricky and can take a while to heal. The Jets were being extra cautious with Mosley knowing that he could potentially reaggravate the groin.

The 27-year-old was signed by the Jets in March to a five-year, $85 million deal, the highest-paid contract ever for an inside linebacker. Mosley was a Pro Bowler four times with the Ravens and has also been a four-time All-Pro.

The Jets defense has played rather well despite Mosley’s absence, but he has been badly missed. His presence can take the Jets defense from average to stellar. He’s that impactful of a player.

With Mosley expected back, the Jets’ chances of taking down the mighty Patriots just skyrocketed.
