Jets LB C.J. Mosley expects to play Week 2 after injuring groin

Update Sept. 9, 2019, 2:54 p.m.

C.J. Mosley will have an MRI on his injuries groin on Monday. Neither he nor Quinnen Williams (ankle) are expected to practice Wednesday, per Adam Gase.

C.J. Mosley doesn’t sound too concerned with the groin injury he suffered on Sunday against the Bills.

Mosley was forced to depart the Week 1 game in the third quarter with an injured groin after breaking up a pass in the back of the endzone. Despite not being able to return against the Bills, Mosley doesn’t believe the injury will keep him out very long.

“I’m alright right now,” Mosley told reporters Monday. “It hurts a little bit to plant, so that’s pretty much why I couldn’t go back in.”

The star linebacker is expected to undergo tests on his groin soon, but Mosley said he plans on playing Monday against the Cleveland Browns.

Mosley was having a career-day in his Jets debut, as he had an interception that he returned for a touchdown and a fumble recovery to go along with five total tackles and two pass defenses. Once Mosley went out, though, the defense never looked the same and gave up 14 points on three series.

The Jets can’t afford to be without Mosley for any extended period of time. He is probably the most important player on the defense, along with Jamal Adams. But Mosley is the main signal caller and being without him can cause a ton of problems, which is exactly what happened Sunday.
