FLORHAM PARK, N.J. _ The Jets will be without their top running back and leading receiver when they face the Texans.
Running back Isaiah Crowell (toe) and Quincy Enunwa (ankle) have been ruled out of Saturday's game at MetLife Stadium. Both players got hurt in Sunday's win over the Bills. For Crowell, it's the first game he'll miss in his NFL career. He had played in 77 straight.
The Jets are banged up in the backfield. Elijah McGuire, who ran for the game-winning touchdown in Buffalo, was limited Thursday with an ankle issue and will be a game-time decision. Rookie Trenton Cannon (toe) was a full participant Thursday for the first time this week.
McGuire, who missed the first eight games with a broken foot, has 158 yards rushing on 42 carries and 11 catches for 90 yards. Cannon has 195 yards of offense on 40 touches.
"It's a good opportunity," Bowles said of the young running backs. "You like what you see so they get a chance to prove themselves."
Enunwa leads the Jets with 38 receptions for 449 yards and only one touchdown. He missed two games earlier this season with an ankle issue, but this is the other ankle.
Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse will remain top targets for Sam Darnold, while Rishard Matthews and Andre Roberts could see bigger roles against the Texans.
Linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu also will not play due to a concussion.
Three other members of the Jets defense will be game-time decisions, according to Bowles.
Cornerback Trumaine Johnson was limited Thursday with a sore foot. It was the first time this week he didn't practice in full. Outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins also was limited because of an ankle injury he suffered on a chop block from Buffalo's Dion Dawkins. Linebacker and special teams player Kevin Pierre-Louis was limited with a shoulder injury.
