Jets interview Seahawks’ Scott Fitterer for GM opening

The New York Jets have interviewed a member of the Seattle Seahawks front office for their opening at general manager.

The team announced Friday afternoon they had formally talked to Seahawks’ co-director of player personnel Scott Fitterer.

The Jets are seeking to replace former general manager, Mike Maccagnan, who was relieved of his duties a couple of weeks ago. Fitterer is the first candidate to interview for the position.

Fitterer has been with Seattle since 2001, when he was first hired as an area scout. He was promoted to director of college scouting in 2010 when head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider took over.

Fitterer was then promoted to co-director of player personnel alongside Trent Kirchner in 2015. His focus has remained mostly on college scouting.

The Jets are expected to interview a number of other candidates from around the league before making a hiring decision.
