Jets ink WR Denzel Mims to 4-year rookie contract

The New York Jets have locked up their 2020 second-round pick for the next four seasons.

Denzel Mims signed his four-year rooki deal worth $5.4 million with $3 million guaranteed on Friday, according to the Daily News’ Manish Mehta. Mims is the second Jet rookie to come to terms on a contract, joining Bryce Hall. That means the Jets still have seven more rookies to sign, including first-round pick Mekhi Becton.

New York took Mims with the 58th overall pick out of Baylor. At Baylor, Mims recorded two 1,000-yard seasons as a sophomore and senior. In Mims’ final three seasons, he recorded at least eight touchdowns, including 12 in his senior season.

The Jets think Mims could be an explosive weapon for Sam Darnold for years to come. He has the size, speed and athleticism to be a dangerous target, but it’s going to take some time for him to get adjusted to the NFL. However, he is off to a good start, as he was one of the players down in Florida for Darnold’s organized workouts.

With Mims signed, he’ll be ready to hit the field for training camp once that begins at the end of July.
