Jets injury report: Sam Darnold trending toward playing vs. Eagles

The 0-3 Jets will not be practicing during their bye week in hopes of getting healthy.

Adam Gase said Monday that Sam Darnold is trending toward playing in Week 5. Darnold is feeling better, although he has not yet been medically cleared. For now, the Jets’ second-year quarterback can partake in cardio exercises while he recovers from his bout with mononucleosis that has sidelined him the last two weeks.

Darnold said that he will do some biking on Monday and try to run some as well. The Jets will decide whether he will throw later this week, but the goal is to catch him up to speed so he can practice next Wednesday.

Darnold’s spleen has shrunk but it’s still not where it needs to be yet. More tests will come next Monday.

In other injury news, Gase said that C.J. Mosley, Quinnen Williams and Demaryius Thomas are all progressing as far as playing against the Eagles is concerned. He is optimistic that they will each play.

Finally, RB Trenton Cannon is now week-to-week with a hamstring injury that he suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots.
