Jets injury report: Sam Darnold to wear splint on sprained thumb

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is one injury away from having to wear bubble wrap on the field.

Adam Gase said Wednesday that Darnold will practice with a splint on his sprained thumb. However, there will be no restrictions on him and he is expected to fully practice. Gase is also not sure if Darnold will need surgery at the end of the season.

As for the other injuries, Kelvin Beachum (ankle) will work with the trainers on Wednesday, but the hope is that he can play this week against Miami. Trumaine Johnson has two ankle injuries and will not practice. Chris Herndon (hamstring) will be limited. Henry Anderson (shoulder) will also be limited. Ryan Kalil (ankle/knee) will not practice and neither will Neville Hewitt (neck). Josh Bellamy has a foot injury, while Rontez Miles has a neck issue.

The Jets also signed LB B.J. Bello and DB Arthur Maulet to the active roster and placed LB Albert McLellan on IR with a concussion. OL Leo Koloamatangi was signed to the practice squad.
