Jets Injury Report: Marcus Maye activated from PUP list, returns to practice

For the first time since November 2018, Marcus Maye is back on the practice field.

Maye was activated from the PUP list on Sunday morning and suited up for practice, his first in nine months. Maye spent spring workouts, the first two weeks of training camp and the Jets’ preseason opener sidelined as he recovered from offseason shoulder surgery. It remains to be seen if he will suit up for Week 2 of the preseason, but Maye’s return to the practice field bodes well for his chances of being ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Maye was not the only impact defensive player to return to practice on Sunday, as Steve McLendon was back in action. McLendon missed practice last week to tend to a personal matter and proceeded to miss New York’s preseason opener against the Giants.

Notably absent from practice on Sunday were Brian Winters (shoulder) and Leonard Williams (hip). Winters injured his right shoulder on the Jets’ opening drive against the Giants and was subsequently removed from the game. According to Manish Mehta of the Daily News, Winters’ injury is not considered serious and he will avoid surgery. The team also expects him to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Avery Williamson (undisclosed) and Ryan Kalil also missed Sunday’s practice. Trumaine Johnson was forced to depart after picking off Sam Darnold during a team period. Johnson spoke with trainers before heading off to the locker room to undergo treatment on his undisclosed injury.
