Jets injury report: Kelvin Beachum, Ty Montgomery suffer ankle injuries

The Jets lost some key players during Friday’s practice due to injuries.

Left tackle Kelvin Beachum and running back Ty Montgomery both went down with ankle injuries. However, head coach Adam Gase doesn’t seem overly concerned about either player. Meanwhile, cornerback Trumaine Johnson is dealing with a sore groin. He tried to give it a go Friday, but was pulled out during the middle of practice.

New York can’t afford to lose Beachum on the offensive line. The Jets don’t have a lot of depth at the tackle position and most of their backup options don’t have much experience. Rookie Chuma Edoga stepped in with the first-team when Beachum went down.

As for Montgomery, fortunately the Jets have a surplus of running backs. But Montgomery is expected to play a big role in the passing game this season.

Johnson is the team’s top corner and there isn’t much behind him either. At least he tried to practice on Friday, but his groin issue is something to keep an eye on going forward.
