Jets injury report: Adam Gase hoping Marcus Maye is ready for Week 1

It wouldn’t be the start of training camp if there weren’t injuries along the way.

The Jets officially reported for training camp on Wednesday a little banged up. Marcus Maye will open up camp on the PUP list thanks to a shoulder injury that he suffered last season. However, Adam Gase is “hoping” Maye will be ready for Week 1 in September.

Brandon Bryant is also on the PUP list with a foot injury and there is no timetable for his return. Bless Austin is on the NFI list as he continues to recover from a torn ACL that he suffered when he was at Rutgers.

As for Maye, the healing process is taking a little longer than expected. He hasn’t had any setbacks with the shoulder, but it’s not healing as fast as he would like. In minicamp, Maye was able to participate in 7-on-7 drills, but nothing more than that. The Jets are being very cautious with Maye given his prior injury history.

Bryant was signed by the team as an undrafted free agent last season out of Mississippi State, while Austin was the Jets’ sixth-round pick this past April.

The Jets are already thin in the secondary at both cornerback and safety, so they will not put these guys back on the field until they are 100 percent ready to go.
