Jets hire ex-Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter as new RB coach

Once considered an up-and-coming coaching standout, the Jim Bob Cooter express is now in reverse. The recently deposed Detroit Lions offensive coordinator has resurfaced as a position coach for the New York Jets.

Cooter made his name as a QB coach working with Matthew Stafford before emerging as an offensive coordinator in Detroit. His offenses started strong but recently kept slipping down a spiral of predictable incompetence, resulting in him not being offered another contract with the Lions.

He has no experience working with running backs, but Cooter did work with Jets head coach Adam Gase in Denver back in 2013.

The Lions replaced Cooter with Darrell Bevell last month.
