Jets have lost 78 straight games when faced with a 17-point deficit

Go up 17 points against the Jets, and you’re all but guaranteed a win.

Gang Green has lost an unbelievable 78 straight games when faced with a deficit of at least 17 points, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. Gang Green hasn’t overcome such a lead since 2001 against the Miami Dolphins.

The latest addition to that lowly streak came on Sunday in London. The Falcons found themselves leading the Jets, 20-3, at the end of the first half following another lifeless start for New York’s offense. The Jets managed to put some points on the board in the second half but ultimately fell, 27-20.

That a 17-point deficit has been insurmountable for the Jets for two decades speaks to how bad the team — particularly the offense — has been at times. The hope was that New York’s offense would find new life under Zach Wilson and Mike LaFleur, but the results have been uneven at best thus far.

Fortunately for the Jets, Wilson, LaFleur and the rest of the offense are still awfully green. If all goes according to plan, the Jets should have the pieces in place to come back against sizeable leads in the future.

For now, the road remains bumpy as another sorry streak continues for New York.
