Jets GM Joe Douglas trying to recruit members of Eagles’ front office to join him in New York

As expected, Jets general manager Joe Douglas is trying to get some of his former colleagues to join him in the Big Apple.

When asked about replacing Douglas as the organization’s vice president of player personnel on Monday, Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman hinted that the role will be filled internally. He also confirmed that Douglas was trying to recruit members of Philadelphia’s front office to join him in New York with his pitch being that the Eagles’ front office was “too top heavy.”

Considering the depth of Philadelphia’s front office, Douglas’ so-called propaganda isn’t far-fetched. When asked about potential replacements for Douglas, Roseman rattled off 11 names to emphasize that the Eagles have the people in place to make up for Douglas’ departure. With so many talented workers in the personnel and scouting departments, there’s not much of an opportunity to move up within the ranks of the organization.

Most likely to replace Douglas is current director of player personnel Andy Weidl. There’s a chance that Douglas tries to poach Weidl, or another member of Philadelphia’s front office, as his No. 2 man with the Jets. After already losing one elite talent evaluator this offseason, that is a possibility Roseman doesn’t seem too thrilled about.

“It’s like losing a good player,” Roseman told reporters. “I’m happy for him, but why does anyone have to take our talent? But I’m happy for him. We’ve had so many conversations about this and he’s going to do a great job. Glad they’re in the AFC.”

It’s understandable that Roseman is worried about losing front office talent to another organization, but that is the name of the game. Douglas worked alongside many talented scouts and personnel workers with the Eagles. Now, there’s a chance they might follow him to New York.
