Jets GM Joe Douglas: ‘There’s a sense of urgency’ to win now

Jets general manager Joe Douglas is well aware that the pressure is on to win now.

Douglas was formally introduced as general manager on Tuesday afternoon after signing a six-year deal last week. Most general managers don’t come in with a franchise quarterback already in place, which was a huge selling point to Douglas. With that, Douglas understands that the stakes are a lot higher for the Jets to win now while Sam Darnold is young and on the cheap.

“There’s a sense of urgency” [to win] right now,” Douglas told reporters.

Douglas comes from a winning culture after the years he spent in the Ravens and Eagles organizations. He played a pivotal role in building teams that won championships, as both the Eagles and Ravens won Super Bowls while he was there.

Douglas is spot on when it comes to winning now while the Jets have a young, up and coming quarterback who is still on his rookie deal. With Darnold in place, Douglas does not have to worry about finding a star signal caller, which will allow him to focus on addressing other positions through trades, free agency and the NFL draft.

There are already some key pieces in place for Douglas on the current roster. Now, it’s on him to add the finishing touches to make sure the Jets can win with a young, promising quarterback.
