Jets free agent target Matt Paradis signs with Panthers

The Jets had shown interest in former Broncos center Matt Paradis, but ultimately struck out on him.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Paradis is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Carolina Panthers worth $27.03 million. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero added that $13.5 million is guaranteed.

The Jets looked as if they were in prime position to sign Paradis. However, Carolina swooped in late and snagged him.

New York desperately needs a center after releasing Spencer Long last month. Long was supposed to be their center for the future, but he struggled with injuries and wasn’t effective enough.

Paradis and Mitch Morse were the top two centers on the open market, with Morse signing with the Bills. As of now, the Jets have one offensive lineman on the roster who can play center in Jonotthan Harrison. He started seven games last season at the position and was just re-signed.

However, if the Jets want to stick with the veteran center, a name to watch out for is former Ram John Sullivan, according to Pelissero.
