Jets' Eric Decker placed on injured reserve with partially torn rotator cuff

Eric Decker's season is over.

The Jets officially placed the veteran wide receiver on injured reserve on Wednesday, roughly two weeks after he partially tore his right rotator cuff against the Chiefs.

He will undergo surgery.

On Tuesday, the Jets claimed former Ravens and Bucs wide receiver Jeremy Butler off waivers _ a strong indication that Decker's recovery wasn't going as well as expected.

Decker, the team's best red-zone threat last season, hadn't practiced or played since the shoulder injury. Last week, he acknowledged that surgery had been "in discussion," but he and the team were taking a wait-and-see approach. But with Decker and head coach Todd Bowles unable to offer a definitive timetable for his return, it became increasingly clear that the receiver was far more hurt than the team was letting on.

In three games this season, Decker caught nine passes for 194 yards and two TDs.
