Jets DE Quinnen Williams donates $25,000 in meals to medical professionals

With the United States in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, NFL players and other athletes across the country have done their part to support medical professionals on the frontlines.

On Monday, Quinnen Williams became the latest to lend a helping hand.

New York’s second-year defensive lineman teamed up with private celebrity chef service Brianna’s Nutrition Kitchen to donate $25,000 worth of healthy meals to medical professionals dealing with the coronavirus in New Jersey, according to The Daily News. Williams also personalized his donations with a picture of himself and a brief blurb stating, “Thank you for your service. Love, Quinnen Williams — NY Jets.”

Williams is the second Jets player to make a major donation during the pandemic, joining new cornerback Pierre Desir, who donated more than 20,000 meals to struggling families in his hometown of St. Louis in March.

“For me, I understand that most of the kids in the poverty-stricken areas of St. Louis, the meals that they get at school are very important to them,” Desir said. “I just wanted to do my part. I reached out to the St. Louis Food Bank to see what I could do to help.”

It has been a rough offseason for Williams. The Alabama product was arrested at LaGuardia Airport for carrying a Glock 19 handgun without a New York license in his check-in bag last month and is awaiting a court date. Despite the self-inflicted turmoil he has endured this offseason, the 22-year-old found a way to help those in need.

Following a rookie season in which he was plagued by injuries, Williams is primed to take a major step forward in year two with the Jets. Regardless of whether or not that happens, though, it’s safe to assume he just earned himself some new supporters and the gratitude of those who received his donation.
