Jets cut rookie Jachai Polite after reportedly fining him over $100K in four months

The New York Jets used the 68th pick in this year’s NFL draft on Florida linebacker Jachai Polite.

Then on Saturday, they cut Polite.

That move was a surprise seeing how that doesn’t happen all that often with such a high draft pick.

Now we’re starting to find out why the Jets sent him packing, as Pro Football Talk reports that the team fined him over $100K during his time with the Jets:

Per a league source, Polite was fined more than $100,000 for tardiness and other issues regarding doing things he shouldn’t have done or not doing things he should have been doing.

It’s not that Polite can’t afford to pay the fines. As the fourth pick in round three, he received a $1.122 million signing bonus from the Jets.

Not a bad payday there considering he only had five tackles in the preseason.

Polite was thought to be a first-round pick but then slid to the third round after a number of poor interviews with teams at the Combine.

The Seahawks have added him Sunday to their practice squad, which is quite a fall for the rookie.
