Jets’ Corey Davis on facing Titans: ‘It’s another week for me’

For the first time since signing with the New York Jets in free agency this offseason, wide receiver Corey Davis will face the team he spent the first four years of his career with, the Tennessee Titans.

Taking a bit of the luster off this is the fact that the game is in New York and not in Nashville, but there’s no question this storyline adds a bit of extra intrigue to the Week 4 contest.

Earlier in the week, Davis admitted that the Titans made no effort to re-sign him in free agency after declining his fifth-year option in 2020, which he says bothered him “a little bit.”

“A little bit,” Davis said. “I’m not going to lie to you… I guess they just wanted to go in another direction. It’s all part of the business. I didn’t take it too hard.”

Davis, whose career with the Titans was marred by lackluster production for someone who was a top-five pick, still managed to do just fine for himself after inking a three-year, $37.5 million deal with the Jets.

As far as facing his old mates is concerned, Davis says this week will be just like any other.

“It’s another week for me, to be honest,” Davis said Thursday. “It’s obvious, you know, I used to play for Tennessee, but I’m not going to make it bigger than what it is. It’s another week and it’s a big week for us, honestly. So, I’m looking forward to it.”

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill made it quite clear that he still has plenty of love for Davis, and it’s safe to say that’s the sentiment with the rest of the Titans’ players and coaches, as Davis was always as stand-up guy in Nashville.

“Hopefully, I can see Corey. I love Corey,” Tannehill said. “He’s an awesome dude. Loved playing with him. Made huge plays for us here the past year, my first two years here. So much respect for him as a player and as a person.”

The Corey Davis revenge game will commence at noon CT on Sunday.
