Jets claim S Derrick Kindred from Colts, waive CB Montrel Meander

The Jets added a little help to the safety position on Tuesday, claiming safety Derrick Kindred off waivers from the Colts. As a corresponding move, the Jets waived cornerback Montrel Meander.

Kindred was originally a fourth-round pick by the Browns out of TCU in 2016. He played three seasons in Cleveland, two of which were under current Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Kindred totaled 148 tackles, 12 pass defenses and two interceptions in 17 starts and 42 appearances with Cleveland.

As for Meander, the Jets claimed him off waivers back in June. He was signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2018 out of Grambling State. Meander was Cleveland’s practice squad before being claimed by the Raiders in November of 2018.
