Jets CEO takes high road when addressing Anthony Barr

Backing out of a deal is frowned upon, whether it’s in sports or business.

After having a deal with the Jets when NFL free agency kicked off, linebacker Anthony Barr flipped his decision the next day to remain in Minnesota.

Jets CEO Christopher Johnson addressed that situation at the league meetings and took the high road.

“We want people on our team who want to be New York Jets,” Johnson said via the New York Daily News. “Not everybody wants to be in New York. If he didn’t want to be here, that’s fine. It’s disappointing when someone backs out on an agreement, but we want people who are all-in.”

That could have been a lot worse.

It’s hard to feel bad for Barr. He’s gotten paid, but free agency moves fast and players feel the pressure to pick a team before that team’s money runs out.

Barr made a decision and then realized quickly that it was the wrong one.
