Jets C Ryan Kalil fined for unnecessary roughness in loss to Patriots

Jets center Ryan Kalil had some money taken out of his paycheck by the NFL.

Kalil was fined $10,527 by the league for unnecessary roughness in last week’s game against the New England Patriots. He was hit with a face mask penalty in the second quarter of the 30-14 loss in New England. The flag not only cost Kalil a lump sum, but it also negated a rush by Le’Veon Bell.

The 34-year-old Kalil has been underwhelming so far this season after the Jets signed him to a one-year deal back in July. He was expected to play a big part in fixing the offensive line after coming out of retirement, but instead the entire unit has been dreadful.

As the center, it’s Kalil’s job to communicate everything he sees to the rest of his fellow linemen, but nobody seems to be on the same page. Pass rushers are having their way with the Jets offensive line.

If the Jets want to have any success this season, this unit has to figure it out. Every good team in the NFL has a strong core in the trenches. It’s on Kalil and the rest of the unit to figure things out.
