Jets bring LB Albert McClellan back, place OL Brent Qvale on IR

Just a day after being released, Albert McClellan is back with the Jets.

The linebacker was cut over the weekend but re-signed on Monday after New York placed offensive lineman Brent Qvale on injured reserve. Qvale, one of the Jets’ more oft-used backup linemen over the last couple of years, injured his knee in training camp. He will be eligible to return later this season.

McClellan, meanwhile, is back after first signing with the Jets on Aug. 17. He was picked up after New York lost Avery Williamson for the season.

Now 33, McClellan has spent most of his seven NFL seasons with the Ravens. He signed with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2011 campaign, back when current Jets GM Joe Douglas was still working in the Ravens’ scouting department. A product of Marshall University, McClellan has 153 tackles, three sacks and five fumble recoveries in 103 career games. He’s started 24 of them.

McClellan most recently played for the Patriots, where he won his second Super Bowl. A depth piece at linebacker with a winning resume, McClellan can also be a contributor for the Jets on special teams.

In addition to the moves involving McClellan and Qvale, the Jets also officially announced two practice squad signings: RB Josh Adams and TE Ian Bunting.
