Jets bring back TE Neal Sterling

The Jets continue to add some depth at tight end.

The team announced Monday that they’ve re-signed tight end Neal Sterling. The terms of the deal have not been released yet.

Last season, Sterling played in five games and had six catches for 47 yards before going down with a head injury. The year prior, Sterling played in 11 games for Gang Green and made six receptions for 82 yards.

The 27-year-old tight end was originally a seventh-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015 out of Monmouth. Sterling made their practice squad before being promoted to the active roster in October. He appeared in nine games in 2015 but didn’t record a stat. In 2016, Sterling played in 10 games and made 12 catches for 110 yards.

Jacksonville released him before the start of the 2017 season and was picked up by the Jets a few days later. However, his time was short-lived as he was released just a month later. The Kansas City Chiefs added Sterling to their practice squad, but he only was there a couple of weeks before returning to the Jets’ practice squad.

The Jets have now brought back their entire tight ends unit from last season and also added former Chicago Bear Daniel Brown to the mix.
