Jets are underdogs for first time in 2019 against Falcons

For the first time in 2019, the Jets are underdogs.

After losing to the Giants in Week 1 of the preseason, oddsmakers gave the Falcons the nod over New York for Week 2 at -2. The over-under currently sits at 43.5, which is somewhat surprising for a preseason tilt.

With Le’Veon Bell unlikely to play, Sam Darnold playing behind a banged-up offensive line and the team’s lack of cornerback depth, it’s no surprise that the Jets are underdogs in this one. New York’s 1-4 mark in its last five preseason games doesn’t help them out much, either.

The Falcons are 0-2 in the preseason so far, but are 7-3 in their last 10 Thursday night games. Matt Ryan is making his preseason debut, giving Atlanta a bit of an added boost even though he is expected to play only a couple of offensive series. Running back Devonta Freeman is also expected to make his preseason debut in a limited role.

Over the last 14 years, the Falcons are 3-1 against the Jets. Atlanta came out on top in the most recent regular season matchup between the two teams, defeating New York 25-20 on a rainy Sunday at MetLife Stadium in 2017.
