Jets among teams with most money on IR

It’s no secret that injuries have cost the Jets this year — literally.

With $15.7 million spent, New York has the fourth-most money on players on injured reserve this season, trailing only the Redskins, Texans and Chargers.

On Wednesday, S Rontez Miles joined WRs Quincy Enunwa and Josh Bellamy, CB Trumaine Johnson, LBs Albert McClellan and Blake Cashman, RB Trenton Cannon, DE John Franklin-Myers, QB Trevor Siemian, OT Brent Qvale and ILB Avery Williamson on injured reserve.

The Jets now have 11 players on season-ending injured reserve. They can still designate Qvale (knee) to return, but that seems rather unlikely at the moment. That’s not even mentioning the injury to LB C.J. Mosley (groin), who seems to be bound for injured reserve sooner than later.

Injuries have followed the Jets like a bad stench in 2019. There’s bad luck with the injury bug and then there’s the Jets, where there seems to be a deeper underlying issue.

The Adam Gase-led Jets haven’t exactly handled injuries efficiently. Mosley was rushed back from his groin injury and made things worse. New York also has two pending injury grievances filed by the NFLPA by Kelechi Osemele and Luke Falk.

The Jets have largely underperformed in 2019 and injuries are one reason why. However, the Jets’ issues go way beyond that and extend to the top of the team’s leadership.

If the team wants to gain an ounce of credibility around the league, its going to have to handle injuries better. It’s as simple as that. Too much talent is on the shelf for Gang Green.
