A year ago, Joe Douglas said teams can never have too many good offensive linemen and he’d do everything he could to sign as many as he could.
He’s making good on that promise.
The Jets agreed to contract terms with tackle Morgan Moses to a one-year, $3.6 million deal on Friday, according to the Washington Post. Moses, a seven-year veteran with the Washington Football Team, should immediately step in as a starter on the Jets offensive line. He can either replace George Fant on the right side in his natural position, take over at right guard for Greg Van Roten or fill in for Mekhi Becton while he recovers from plantar fasciitis.
Either way, the Moses deal is a slam-dunk signing for Douglas as he looks to build a formidable offensive line.
Moses finished 2020 with a solid 80.6 overall Pro Football Focus grade and excelled in run-blocking with an 85.6 grade. He helped rookie Antonio Gibson rushed for 4.7 yards per carry – which ranked 17th in the league last year – despite a bottom-tier rushing attack. Washington’s rushing DVOA also ranked 14th, according to Football Outsiders. His pass-blocking leaves a little bit to be desired, though. Moses allowed five sacks in 2020 and Washington ranked 28th in pass protection as a team.
One of the best qualities of Moses is his durability. He hasn’t missed a game and started all 16 games in seven consecutive seasons.
