Jets add Washington veteran right tackle Morgan Moses: report

The Jets are learning from their mistakes with their former quarterback Sam Darnold as they continue to build around rookie Zach Wilson.

The Jets and right tackle Morgan Moses have agreed to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports. Moses’ deal is worth $3.6M in base salary, per NFL Network. He can reportedly get to $5.3M with 80% or more playing time incentives.

The offensive line already features Mekhi Becton and Alijah Vera-Tucker. Moses will protect Wilson in ways the former quarterback was never blocked for.

“Morgan is a fantastic player. He’s played at a very high level,” coach Robert Saleh said recently. “We’re not going to shy away from adding good football players.”

The Jets have George Fant at right tackle, but Moses improves that spot. Pro Football Focus rated Moses as the 18th best tackle with a grade of 79.9. He also had a run blocking grade of 84.7, which was seventh best. The Jets will run the rock a bunch, so having someone that excels at that is good for the club. Fant can become the swing tackle for the Jets.

Moses, 30, was released by Washington on May 20 after seven seasons and 97 starts.

Along with the improved offensive line, the receiving corps has also improved. Wilson will be throwing to Corey Davis, Jamison Crowder, Keelan Cole, a talented rookie Elijah Moore and Denzel Mims.

This is how you properly build around a young quarterback.
