Jets add OL Brandon Hitner to practice squad

The Jets signed OL Brandon Hitner to fill out a vacant spot on their practice squad Tuesday.

That void was left by OL Calvin Anderson, who was signed to the Denver Broncos’ active roster.

Hitner, a UDFA out of Villanova, impressed in training camp with the Rams. However, he was unable to force his way into the conversation in a crowded offensive line room. He originally worked out with the Jets back on Sept. 5, so he has been on New York’s radar for the past month or so.

At Villanova, Hitner played 28 games over four years. He started his last two years at right tackle.

The Jets claimed Anderson off waivers from the Patriots in May. He did not make the original roster, but found himself a spot on the practice squad.

The UDFA out of Texas didn’t posses what scouts viewed as NFL strength to get drafted. The Jets were hoping to develop him on their practice squad, but his help is needed immediately in Denver.
