Jets activate DL Nathan Shepherd, place RB Trenton Cannon on IR

Jets defensive lineman Nathan Shepherd has officially returned from his six-game suspension.

The team announced that Shepherd has been activated to the 53-man roster. Trenton Cannon was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury. Shepherd was suspended for two separate violations of performance-enhancing drugs while recovering from shoulder surgery.

Shepherd was a third-round draft pick by the Jets in 2018 out of Fort Hays State. In 2018, Shepherd recorded 18 total tackles (one for loss) and five quarterback hits.

As for Cannon, he was the primary kick return man for the Jets this season.
He only had five total returns but averaged 19.2 yards. Cannon has also made five special teams tackles. In his career as a running back, Cannon has 38 carries for 113 yards and one touchdown.

The Jets also held a couple workouts at inside linebacker given the amount of injuries that have piled up at the position. According to the Daily News’ Manish Mehta, the Jets worked out linebackers Vincent Rey and Paul Worrilow.
