Jets activate CB Bless Austin, waive LB B.J. Bello

Not all draft selections get off to the start that they had hoped for. Forced to nurse a knee injury that has lingered from his college days at Rutgers, Jets cornerback Bless Austin is one of those players.

Now, however, he is officially ready to start his NFL career. The Jets announced on Thursday that they have activated Austin to their roster. A sixth-round pick in 2019, the former Rutgers cornerback was designated to the team’s active/non-football-injury list on July 22.

Austin has been rehabbing from a knee injury that occurred in the Scarlet Knights’ 2018 season opener. At 6-foot-1, 198-pound corner totaled four interceptions, 18 passes defended, two sacks and five tackles for loss over 25 games at Rutgers.

To make room for Gang Green’s newest addition to the secondary, LB B.J. Bello was waived.

Bello signed with the team last Wednesday following a short stay on the Packers practice squad earlier in the year. After going undrafted in 2017, Bello has played for the likes of Philadelphia and Cleveland. He has totaled eight tackles in 19 career games.

Now, Bello will look to continue his NFL career elsewhere.
