Jets’ Aaron Rodgers Intercepts Pass While Filling in As Scout Team Linebacker

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers took snaps at Jets practice on Friday—but not under center.

Rodgers filled in at linebacker on New York’s scout team defense for a few reps and hauled in an interception during a drill, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

“Jumped up and caught it with one hand,” tackle Duane Brown told Cimini of the interception. “He contested a catch and picked it off.”

Rodgers has been practicing two times per week since his 21-day practice window opened Nov. 29. Per Cimini, Rodgers took snaps at quarterback Thursday and participated in 7-on-7 drills.

“I’m getting better, improving,” Rodgers said Thursday on The Pat McAfee Show. “There's still some things that I have to do to be cleared.”

Rodgers filled in on the Jets’ scout team defense on Thursday, as he continues to work back from his torn Achilles earlier this season.

Rodgers, who underwent surgery in September to repair a torn Achilles tendon, has been eyeing the Jets’ matchup against the Commanders on Dec. 24 for a potential return date. But New York, at 5–8, is currently out of the AFC playoff picture with a matchup looming against the Dolphins on Sunday.

If he’s cleared to play, Rodgers said he would only return if New York was battling for a playoff spot.

And yes, if he’s activated—which is still unlikely—it would be at quarterback, not linebacker.
