Jetro Willems shares positive injury update after operation

Jetro Willems has undergone surgery after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Chelsea - in a incident which cut short his time at Newcastle United.

The Dutch wing-back had impressed in his six-months on Tyneside, and quickly became a fans' favourite but is now looking back to get to full fitness - rather than a permanent move to United.

Having returned to his parent club Frankfurt last week - he has now successfully come through an operation.

Taking to social media, he wrote: "'Everything went well with the surgery, and guess what? Recovery starts straight away.

"It's all about the mindset.

"No time for lacking - I'm busy executing God's plan."

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce was forced to bring in Danny Rose on loan from Tottenham to fill the gap left by Willems' injury.

Rose, speaking on his arrival to the club said: " I did not need to be convinced.

"I was watching Newcastle play Chelsea and unfortunately Jetro Willems got injured.

"Afterwards I heard the commentator say they'd need a left-sided player.

"Straight away I called my agent and said: 'I want to go - can you try to make it happen'.

"That's literally how it all started."
