Jetro Willems says Newcastle will hold a 'special place' in his heart as his loan deal comes to end

Jetro Willems has said an emotional goodbye to Newcastle United as his loan deal at the club officially comes to end.

The Dutchman suffered a season-ending injury back in January but his deal at United was still running until July 1st.

The 26-year-old had impressed and there was hope he could secure a permanent deal before injury struck.

Having undergone rehab for the knee injury there is some hope he may return to action next season but it won't be - at least for now - in the shirt of United meaning his appearance tally will stay at 19.

Despite a relatively short amount of games for United, Willems told fans via social media the club will have a 'special place' in his heart.

Willems posted on Twitter: "I want to thank everyone at Newcastle United.

"You made me feel at home and supported me throughout the whole season.

"I really appreciate that and I wish you all luck, success and health.

"I’m now going to see what the future holds, but I want you to know that you have a special place in my heart."
