Jetro Willems Newcastle return raised again, this time in German tabloid report

Jetro Willems has again been linked with a move to Newcastle, this time in German tabloid Sportsbild.

The report - spotted by Sport Witness - notes that Eintracht Frankfurt are now hoping Newcastle pounce in January and broker a move for Willems "for a small fee".

The wing-back is battling his way back to fitness after a serious knee injury and is in full training - although is yet to start for the Bundesliga side this season. He has targeted a new year return to action but both player and club are taking a cautious approach to his return after the severity of January's injury.

Out of contract at the end of the season, the thinking in the report seems to be that the German club are looking to recoup some transfer funds from a player who they had hoped to sell for around £8million when he first joined Newcastle on loan.

Willems has always spoken of his desire to return to United but current thoughts don't extend past his return to action.

For his part, Steve Bruce took the approach of signing first-team ready players in the summer and with knowledge of the severity of Willems' injury, there was an acceptance that he might be months away from regular football. Newcastle signed Jamal Lewis instead.

Whether they may return to Willems remains to be seen. But it would be a popular move.
