Jetro Willems hints at Newcastle United return and labels Magpies a 'wonderful club'

Jetro Willems has labelled Newcastle United a 'wonderful club' and admits he is hoping to return to English football .

The Dutch international impressed in a loan spell on Tyneside last season before it was cruelly cut short by a serious knee injury suffered in the victory over Chelsea in January.

Willems has returned to full-contact training with current side Eintracht Frankfurt following a lengthy rehabilitation programme, and is out of contract in the summer.

The Bundesliga outfit want the versatile 26-year-old to stay, but the former United star has rejected the offer of a new deal and indicated he will not be re-signing for them.

Willems has not hidden his admiration for the Magpies and has spoken of how much he enjoyed his brief stint in black-and-white, which included two memorable strikes against Liverpool and Manchester City.

According to Dutch outlet RTL Nieuws, Willems has praised his former side again and expressed his desire to play again in England.

Speaking about the Magpies, the Dutch international said: "A wonderful club. In terms of history, stadium. The Geordies, that accent is nice.

"I hope to be able to go to England. That suits me. The atmosphere in England is wonderful."

Willems' agent Sigi Lens recently stressed his client's willingness to return to St James' Park, indicating the Dutch international would be 'happy' to return if an offer was made.

Lens told ChronicleLive: "It is a great club and he had a great time in England. Newcastle were very good after the injury so it is something he would be happy with if the opportunity came up.

"He is fully fit and ready to play now."
